2014 is almost a wrap!
Before we let this year slip on out the door, let’s take a moment to reflect on some Hip-Hop highlights. This year we saw Remy Ma released, Jay Z attacked, and one beef after another. Since there’s so much ground to cover, we decided to narrow the list down to an even dozen.
Hit the gallery for 12 of the biggest moments in Hip-Hop this year.

Another Round
This year, Outkast reconnected to celebrate 20 years in the game. Even if the tour was a little awkward in the beginning, this reunion was a big look.
And The Grammy Goes To…
Macklemore’s winning the Best Rap Album over Kendrick Lamar, was a serious spazz moment for Hip-Hop. In the thick of it, Macklemore denounce his own damn Grammy. Smh.

After years of blasting them, 50 Cent bounced cut the chord from Interscope. Leaving the label after 12 years is definitely the end of an era.
Access Denied
Drake’s put the media on his on sh*t list because of a Rolling Stone interview. In short, Drake felt like the magazine was trying to make him look bad, so he’s not doing anymore interviews.
The Press Conference
Not sure who approved this, but Lil Boosie’s post-prison press conference was a big moment because it was extremely unnecessary, and thoroughly entertaining.
Club Billionaire
Dr. Dre showed us just how far Hip-Hop can take you this year. Apple’s acquisition of Beats by Dre moved the Doc into the billionaire tax bracket (or close enough).
Jail House Rap
2014 will go down as the year that the law snatched Meek Mill’s freedom, and ran away like a thief in the night. Meek spent close to half of this year in jail for violating his probation, when his plan was to release a new album.
Fight Night
If Drake really stole “0 to 100” from Diddy’s, then he should’ve known that wouldn’t go over well. Diddy putting the paws on Drizzy is one for the history books.
The Fall Of Cash Money
Don’t act like this wasn’t a shocker. Yes, Cash Money has its problems, and yes Tyga already did it first, but nobody expected Lil Wayne to turn against Cash Money.
Shmurda Inc.
This guys fall from grace was swift, and tragic. One minute Bobby Shmurda’s living the life with a hit single, and the next he’s being carted out of a studio in handcuffs. With charges this serious against them, Shmurda & Co. has a long road ahead.
Anaconda
Face it, Nicki Minaj broke the Internet before Kim Kardashian even had a chance. Whether it was loved or hated, Hip-Hop went crazy over “Anaconda” just like Nicki wanted. That counts as a win.
Cole Winter
We barely got a month’s notice before J. Cole dropped 2014 Forest Hills Drive, and it’s already the year’s best-selling rap album. Now that’s how you come out on top.
