An early contender for mixtape of 2015 comes from rising Chicago rapper Towkio, the mind behind .WAV Theory.

Featuring 12 tracks, the project adds another strike to the wins column for the Chitown’s SaveMoney clique, which touts names like Chance The Rapper and Vic Mensa, along with rising duo Leather Corduroy.

To say that steal sharpens steal in the collective would be an understatement, as Towkio, more often than not, strays away from sounds commonly attributed to mainstream rap music. The end result is a body of work that’s concise and sonically diverse, while remaining technically advanced in the aforementioned categories, as well lyrically superior.

Features come very far and between, with contributions from his rap brethren, a little horn work from fellow SaveMoney member Donnie Trumpet and a guest appearance by vocalist Eryn Allen Kane. Producer Kaytranada also contributed a heater called “Reflection.”
