A woman died jumping from a parking garage as she tried to flee security at Providence Mall in Providence, R.I. Thursday (July 15) evening. Police were called to the scene at around 7 p.m., and say the unidentified 35-year-old was accused of shoplifting at a Nordstrom location.
She was approached by the department store’s loss prevention personnel for allegedly stealing, and tried to run away. Security chased her into the mall’s parking lot where she tried to jump from the first floor onto the street, which was approximately 25 feet below.
The woman was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital. The mall remained open throughout the entire incident.
It’s unclear what she was accused of stealing.
