Much has been deciphered concerning The Notorious B.I.G.’s brief but illustrious career but there was still was an unsolved mystery concerning a particular line from the laid back classic record, “Big Poppa.”

At the tail end of the second verse, Biggie Smalls vividly describes the closing time portion of a typical club night shortly before he slides to the crib to dig into some ribs. When describing his late night meal, he dropped a rather ambiguous nod to Welch’s products.

“Plans to leave, throw the keys to Lil Cease/Pull the truck up front, and roll up the next blunt/So we can steam on the way to the telly, go fill my belly/A T-bone steak, cheese eggs and Welch’s grape”

Black Twitter alum Mela Machinko and Koku TV’s Koku Puff decided to do some investigative journalism and took to social media for some answers.

It didn’t too long for the word to get back to Biggie’s former right-hand man and he clarified once and for all that the Welch’s grape in question was undoubtedly the soda.

Mela Machinko tells us the conversation has been part of an ongoing #GrapeDebate on social media for more than a week with Thembisa S. Mshaka even giving first-hand accounts of Biggie drinking juice. Stay tuned for further developments on their conversation via Google Hangout.

This revelation falls somewhere in between the quest to find the actual occurence of Ice Cube’s “Today Was a Good Day” and him debunking the entire record.

Genius community, do what y’all do. We’ll always love Big Poppa.
