Doug Banks, a beloved radio and television personality in Chicago, died Monday from complications related to diabetes. Banks was a popular fixture on radio stations by way of his nationally-syndicated show and supporters are fondly honoring the longtime disc jockey.

A Philadelphia native, Banks began his broadcasting career for his high school’s radio station before he was hired by a local station to work a late-night weekend slot. Banks then took his talents to Los Angeles and his career exploded from that point on.

After bouncing around on the West Coast, Banks landed a coveted morning show slot in Las Vegas before eventually landing in Chicago and working for the local V103 station where his syndicated show aired from. Banks’s afternoon show has been one of the top-rated shows since its launch in 2008. He was also closely connected to radio broadcast legend Tom Joyner, who joined the refrain of high regard for Banks.

Banks was deeply involved in the Chicago community and fans have poured out several loving remembrances onto his Facebook page. Joining those fans in their adoration of Banks were celebrities across all walks taking to social media to share their condolences and fond thoughts.

According to a report from WGN, Banks’ wife, Wendy, issued a statement thanking fans and supporters for their thoughts.

Banks was 57.

Rest powerfully in peace, Doug Banks.
