The shooting situation that unfolded in Dallas, Texas Thursday night is still a developing news story, and just the latest violent event in the country already inundated with grief and despair. Police say that the deceased suspect wanted to kill White people, which is just one of the many revelations to come as the investigation continues.
As reported by USA Today, Dallas Police Chief David Brown addressed the media in a news conference in where he barely contained his emotions. According to Chief Brown, the gunman, who was Black, said during police negotiations that he wanted to kill white people and white police officers in response to the recent deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.

Seven other police officers and two civilians were injured in the melee that sent protesters scrambling as heavy gunfire erupted.
After almost an hour of negotiations, the heavily armed gunman — who was holed up in a building overlooking the protest route — was killed by police using a robot-controlled explosive device, Brown told reporters Friday morning.
Brown did not identify the suspect but said he was not affiliated with any other groups “and stated that he did this alone.”
Several reports are swirling about but the latest numbers are that 12 officers were shot, five of them fatally. Two civilians were also shot, including a Black mother of four who shielded her children with her body. The mother was shot in the right calf and her injury is not life-threatening.
