Marc Jacobs is staving off an epic amount of slander, this after the celebrated fashion designer made a choice to dress white models Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner in faux dreadlocks. Despite the bold statement Jacobs attempted to make, the Internet was unkind in unleashing colossal slander regarding the New York Fashion Week runway spectacle.

Jacobs rolled out his Spring 2017 line Thursday with the aforementioned models adorned in multi-colored dreadlocks. The look was inspired by trans director Lana Wachowski, who has worked as part of a Jacobs’ ad campaign earlier this year according to a US Weekly report. The fax wool locks were purchased from Etsy shop owner @DreadsbyJena.

The reaction on social media has been quite vicious, with many feeling as if Jacobs is appropriating Black culture by using mostly white models to wear a traditionally Black hairstyle. Some also called out the designer for not employing Black models with the coveted natural hair that he added on to the models.

We’ve collected some of the Marc Jacobs slander across Twitter, and we’re sure you can find lots more by following this hashtag. If we’ve missed a favorite comment or observation, let us know in the comments section.

Oh and it appears Marc Jacobs has responded to the criticism by saying he doesn’t see color or race. You already know how that went for him.
