Model/Fashion Icon Naomi Campbell , who is currently in trial for possibly accepting blood diamonds , took the stand in trial today and stands by her claim that she was unaware of their origin.
She is also insisting that she had nothing to gain from lying about it.
The diamonds were given to her from former Liberian dictator Charles Taylor.
The prosecution is currently trying to prove that Taylor gave weapons and military training to brutal rebels during Sierra Leone’s civil war, in exchange for blood diamonds.
The stones were given to Naomi in 1997 and although she does confirm that she received them as a gift- she claims that she didn’t know who they were from.
She released a statement today claiming that she had “no reason to lie”.
American actress Mia Farrow and a former agent for the model both claim that Campbell knew where the stones were and that she was ecstatic to receive them.
