A 55-year-old Missouri man stopped and helped a quartet of women fix a flat tire while driving home a week ago. The man’s kind act left him dead from a reported gun wound to the back and now, the four women he helped who were reportedly in the state as sex workers have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Fox 13 reports:

Brittany Curry, 28, Ponesha Taylor, 23, Johniesha Simmons, 19, and Lauteshia Dotson, 23, have all been charged with first degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.

The women are being housed in four separate county jails in southeast Missouri.

They reportedly had a flat tire and a man identified as Ralph Cross offered to help them.

Officials confirmed with FOX13 that Cross may have bought them a new tire and invited them back to his home where they stayed until Cross’ body was discovered Tuesday morning.

The Aug. 1 incident sparked an investigation into Cross’ murder, who was last seen in the company of the four women. According to a report from local outlet Southeast Missourian, Cross was seen arguing with three of the women outside his home early on that Tuesday morning. A witness said as Cross was walking back to his home, a loud bang was heard and Cross was found later suffering from a wound.

The four suspects are being held without bond.
