Today marks the 46th anniversary of the assassination of one of the most influential black figures in American history, Malcolm X (El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz).

Starting in humble beginnings, X rose to prominence as a member and speaker for the Nation Of Islam in the late ‘50s and early ‘60s.

A fearless advocate of African American rights, X’s fiery speeches and unabashed acts of black-pride made him one of the most controversial and powerful black men in America.

X was murdered February 21, 1965 while delivering a speech at New York’s Audubon Ballroom.

As reported, last April, the only man to serve time for in the murder Thomas Hagan was released from prison after serving 44 years.

As recently reported, earlier this month, the six daughters of Malcolm X and his late wife Betty Shabazz are embroiled in a dispute over their parent’s estate.
