The passing of Nelson Mandela, the revolutionary South African yesterday, December 5 left the Hip-Hop community in a state of mourning and reflection. His legacy, leadership and bravey to stand up to oppression was a direct example of the values to which the culture is rooted.

The passing of iconic South African anti-apartheid activist and revolutionary leader Nelson Mandela has shaken the entire globe.

Today is a sad day. Nelson Mandela has passed away at the age of 95. 

Nelson Mandela celebrates his 95th birthday today (July 18). Mandela has been battling health issues that landed him in the hospital where he remains,  but  is said to be making improvements and responding well to treatment.

Nelson Mandela is a “shell of himself” says his longtime friend and ex-prison mate. Ahmed Kathrade battled apartheid alongside Mr. Mandela and visited the ailing former leader in a South African hospital recently.

Nelson Mandela is in a “vegetative state,” and family members were encored to remove him from life support over a week ago, according to court papers.The 94-year-old has been in and out of the hospital for the last several months.

President Barack Obama began the first day of a weeklong trip to the Motherland. The commander in chief and the first family landed in Senegal late Wednesday (June 26).

Nelson Mandela’s condition is quickly deteriorating. Earlier in the week, Mandela was listed in critical condition over a recurring lung infection, and has reportedly been placed on life support.

Nelson Mandela’s health is fading as doctors in South Africa are hoping to stabilize the lauded anti-apartheid leader. Mandela was admitted into the hospital this month for a recurring lung infection, which has now entered a critical stage.

Nelson Mandela was hospitalized  in a South African facility Saturday (June 9), over a recurring lung infection. The former leader’s health has been on the decline for the last several months. 

Nelson Mandela’s daughters are continuing their fight to take hold of his multi-million dollar fortune and artwork by filing a lawsuit challenging the anti-apartheid leader’s control over his  trust.  Zenani and Makaziwe Mandela have attempted to grab the money more than once.

Nelson Mandela has been ill as of late, which may contribute to the ongoing battle for control of his fortune. One of Mandela’s granddaughters is accusing his longtime friend of  lying on the family, to maintain a grip on the 94-year-old’s companies.
