Breaking! Senate Passes Healthcare Reform Bill

POLITICS

The Senate passed President Barack Obama's healthcare reform bill at 7:00 a.m. Thursday morning without a single Republican vote. The 60-39 landslide victory moved the bill through the body and now calls for the Senate's version of the bill to be merged with the House of Representatives' version that was previously passed in November.

The House of Representatives' bill was much harder to pass and narrowly missed opposition with a 220-215 vote, with one majority vote coming from a Republican.

Conference committee negotiations will meet to discuss the merging of the two bills. Both bills call for extending healthcare coverage to 30 million more Americans.

I'm hoping the final version will truly make healthcare affordable to everyone, but thats yet to be seen and with all the changes from the original I'm doubtful.
