In an industry where most artists can rarely put out an album without any of the tracks being leaked, Lupe has fallen victim to become one of the many artists with leaked songs. Lupe’s new song “I’m Beaming,” was leaked on Christmas Eve and by a recent blog post from Lupe himself, it is obvious that he is not happy about it.

Lupe posted on his blog:

“Actions are being taken and the authorities have been notified, as a personal plea to all my fans PLEASE DO NOT share, stream, or download any unauthorized or stolen Lupe Fiasco music. A lot of time and energy goes into the creation of this music, not to mention large sums of money, money provided by my record company as well as from my own personal finances… With the history that surrounds the devastating and massive piracy of my first album i’m sure some of you can understand why this very harsh stance that is being taken up. And for those of you unsympathetic enough not to understand I can only compare it to someone breaking into your house and stealing everything not tied down or someone kidnapping your sister or brother and ransoming them back to you.”

Although internet leakage is common in the industry, what is not so common is the legal path Lupe is taking. While most artists in the HipHop game have accepted leaking of singles and even whole albums, never has one brought any form of authorities into the situation. This is Fiasco’s 2nd single leaked from his new album as the single “Shining Down” hit the web earlier this year, which resulted in Lupe blogging his thoughts and showing his displeasure. The new album “Lasers” is planned to be released in early 2010 and will be Lupe’s third studio album.

I understand why Lupe is upset, but at the same time he must learn to adapt to the game. Can you imagine if his whole album leaks before it comes out? (Which it most likely will)

So what do yall think, is Lupe overreacting?
