Lesbian Discharged From Military After Police Tell Her Orientation

POLITICS

A sergeant in the military that was hiding her sexual orientation from superiors was discharged after police found a marriage license in her home and reported her as a lesbian to the military.

Jene Newsome and the American Civil Liberties Union filed a complaint against the South Dakota police department for what they see as a violation of privacy. Newsome says she was operating under the “Don't Ask, Don't Tell” policy when police unlawfully broke the news to the air force without her permission.

The police report that Newsome would not cooperate with them by coming back to her home after they showed up with an arrest warrant for her partner. Although Newsome was not there, they spotted a marriage license on the woman's kitchen table and reported it to the base.

According to Police Chief Steve Allender, the license was relevant because “it showed both the relationship and residency of the two women.”

Newsome and her spouse were married in Iowa where same sex marriage is legal.

SMH....can they really tell on people like that?!

Rude.

Yes they can!!! When you are in the military, you are government property, therefore you have no privacy, you are on call 24/7. The military can search your house anytime they want to. When you voluntarily sign up to be a service member you give up your civilian rights and service members can not sue the military. Good luck with that holding any weight in a court of law.

THE ARTICLE SAID THE SOUTH DAKOTA POLICE DEPARTMENT WENT INTO HER HOUSE NOT THE MILITARY. SO NO THEY CAN'T INVADE HER PRIVACY LIKE THAT AND TELL THE MILITARY. I SEE A PAY DAY IN HER NEAR FUTRURE B/C ITS OBVIOUS THE ONLY REASON WHY THEY SENT THEIR MARRIAGE LICENSE WAS B/C DISCRIMINATION AGAINST GAYS. *SSHOLES!!!! JENNY JONES!!!!

Yeah everyone knows gays are in the military and true she didn't violate the policy but it is still illegal to be gay in the military so once your found out to be gay,(doesn't matter how) your out, so she has no case. And I'm am an active duty 13 year MSgt in the Air Force.
