Al Gore and wife Tipper Gore have decided to separate after 40 years of marriage.
Al Gore, who is best known for his role as vice president and active role within climate change, announced the separation via e-mail. Gores wife Tipper is best known as the leader of the Parents Music Resource Center, where she pushed for music industry labels to provide "explicit lyrics or content” labels on CD's.
The organization was founded in 1984 after Tipper heard Prince's “Darling Nikii” which contained references to sex and masturbation. These labels were important in notifying not only the public, but retailers who sometimes refused to carry records that contained the label.
Tipper is also known for her accusations against West Coast Rapper Ice-T, claiming that the rappers violent lyrics had assisted in the increase of the violence against police officers in East Los Angeles.
Tipper's actions, which were viewed as a first amendment threat, received opposition from both the Hip-Hop and rock communities in the late 90's.
