Eminem "Recovery" Album Review

Eminem has released his new album “Recovery.” See where this one ranks among his classics.

The road to Eminem’s newest album “Recovery” has definitely been a highly anticipated and long awaited one.  I mean, the man had to put out a bonus track CD after “Relapse” with extra songs just to satisfy fans as they eagerly waited for his 7th studio album.  So does the album live up to the hype?

One of the first things you may notice overall about this album is that Marshall isn’t playing any games.  Sure we get the funny punch lines and smart a** remarks from Slim once in awhile, but unlike his other albums, Shady is going for a no-filler killer and has 16 straight tracks with no sort of skits.

As we listen to early tracks such as “On Fire” and “Won’t Back Down,” we see Em goes on the offensive early and is looking to set a foundation with straight raw punch lines! Although the hooks can be somewhat annoying from a singy Eminem, we get a good break when Em brings Pink into the mix for “Wont Back Down.”  In this track, Shady shows he is coming hard while showing his cleverness by literally turning down the track and spitting lines like:

“Trying to turn me down while I’m talking to you? Turn me back up, are you insane? Trying to talk over me in the car, shut the Fawk up while my Shyte’s playing!”

However, as we continue the album, we do get another side of Eminem that balances out the album. During a Recovery phase, one must look at his past and regret some things.   Songs like “Talking to Myself” and “Spacebound,” show the emotional side of Em as he spits about being at his lowest.  We also get the pure genius of “25 To Life” where Em pulls the classic girl/Hip-Hop metaphor that we’ve seen so many artists do, and see that Em balances a good mixture of raw punchlines with emotional words, that shows the maturity of the rapper.

“Don’t I give you enough of my time? You don’t think so do you? Jealous when I spend some time with the girls, why I’m married to you? Man I don’t know, but tonight I’m serving you with papers. I’m divorcing you, go marry someone else and make them famous.”

Eminem – “25 To Life”

The album continues with heaters like the Dr. Dre produced “So Bad,” and although it doesn’t showcase many other artist besides Em, features like Rihanna and Lil Wayne mix a good blend of talent that will easily give Em two singles off the album.

Overall the album is a banger, though most of the hooks are slightly corny and Em’s singing does get tedious, Em has proven to us that lyrically he cannot be messed with and is showing the young punch line spitters like Drake, how it’s done.

With a few Michael J. Fox jokes and some lines thrown at pop stars, Em has shown us that he has matured without leaving his roots, something that we have been waiting for in an album for a long time.

It’s been a long road, but I do think Eminem has “Recovered.”

This proofs that Eminem is back! He has gone back to his roots and is hungry again. This is the old Em. Need proof: “Like David Carradine go Fawk yourself and die.” This is definitely a classic Hip Hop album to have in the archives!

THANK you. This is an honest and unbiased review, not trying to anticipate fan ‘disappointment’ or criticize every single new thing Eminem tried with this album. Fresh and innovative, I thought Marshall breaking the standard formula of skits and predictable, corny radio singles was a brilliant idea. The man is back at the top of his game and ‘On Fire'; like ‘Cinderella Man’, he just bounces back.

” one must look at his past and regret some things.”

One must? Really? I’m sorry, but I have a strong feeling that this was written by a 9th or 10th grader.

Anyone who believes this album isnt as good as relapse shouldnt be allowed to even listen to Eminem! Relapse??!!! That was an embarrassment to his unbelievable talent. If you are a true fan you would know that even Em is embarrassed about relapse. You guys relly work my nerves setting recovery below his last mistake of an attempt to be all controversy and no purity.

what ive heard lately is by far the best he has brought to the table, he sings with a lot of passion in his voice an its like you can actually feel what he is saying. his words speak whats real, something most music fails to do. he sings through what he sees through his own eyes an feels in his own heart. inspiring if you ask me.

If u wanna hear “old Em,” go buy the marshal mathers LP. You probably want the next super bowl to happen exactly like the last one too. The man gave us a diamond in industry flooded with crap. Stop talking about old Em people. We all gotta grow up sometime. Best rapper alive. Hands down.

This album is great! You haters obviously don’t know a good album when u hear one! Everyone in hip hop has to evolve with the times, I mean look at the blue print 3, totally different than old jigga. Eminem is amazing in every aspect of the game. Unfortunately everyone won’t relize this until he is done, and no longer blesses the mic and his fans. Until then keep feeding your fans classics em

I have been a fan of Eminem for a looong time. Never missed a concert everytime he comes to the Bay Area. I think Recovery is his illest album ever, full of heart & emotion. Proof finally got a great song dedicated to him (was waiting for it in Relapse but got disappointed). Like the other person who left a comment, I also don’t mind the singing Em because it sounded heartfelt. I noticed people who like Replase tend to not like Recovery & vice versa.

This is the most boring thing i have heard come from eminem. Any true fan would agree. He just sounds like he is sorry for everything, when he shouldn’t be. The first and last song on the cd are great (cold as the wind blows and untitled) but other than that, everything is slow, and there are too many samples of other songs that he uses. Its boring and it isnt the old eminem.

I don’t know mr. slim shady. You cannot just down play your old work in order to make your new work seem better. Have some confidence and be like Kanye. Kanye believes all his music is great. haha
