Michael Rapaport’s highly awaited A Tribe Called Quest documentary has been chosen as one of the Sundance Film Festival’s selections for the upcoming year.

The documentary, titled Beats Rhymes and Life, will capture the “rise and influence of one of the most innovative and influential hip hop bands of all time.”

The film will have the legendary group reuniting at the Rock The Bells Tour where they “re-discover that their own personal differences may overpower their love for the group, countless, hard-core fans, and its ability to survive the pressures of fame.”

On Thursday, band member Q-Tip took to his Twitter page to share his disapproval with the project.

“I am not in support of the a tribe called quest documentary,” he wrote. “The filmmaker should respect the band to the point of honoring the few requests that’s was made abt the piece.”

The film will follow the foursome of Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Jarobi, through the highs and lows of their music career.

The footage will detail the troubles that eventually ended in their separation and air out personal moments between the bandmates.

Other MC’s such as  Questlove, Kanye West, Mos Def, the Roots and Nas, who also played a role in the documentary’s creation, will be in the film, and give their take on the bands influence and personal work.

The film takes place January 20-30 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.
