Madame C.J. Walker Biopic To Begin Filming

Madame C.J. Walker Biopic To Be Released
The story of hair product mogul and first female millionaire Madame C.J. Walker is set to be brought to the big screen.

Spirit of Life Films, LLC, the producers in pre-production for “Blondie: The Florence Ballard Story” starring Faith Evans, are confirming that they’ve acquired film rights to “The Road to Millions: The Life of Madam C.J. Walker.”

The biopic, produced in conjunction with Honey K Productions, will detail the meteoric rise of the beauty product entrepreneur and business pioneer.

While the lead actress has yet to be named, Oscar winners have already been attached to the film and an announcement will be made in the forthcoming weeks.

Producers are said to be looking for an actress who truly understands Madame Walker’s journey.

According to the hair care mogul herself;

“I am a woman who came from the cotton fields of the South. From there I was promoted to the washtub. From there I was promoted to the cook kitchen and from there I promoted myself into the business of manufacturing hair goods and preparations.”

The Road to Millions: The Life of Madam C.J. Walker” is slated to begin filming Summer, 2011.

    As Madam C. J. Walker’s great-great-granddaughter and biographer–and as president of the Madam Walker/A’Lelia Walker Family Archives–I would like to make it clear that neither Honey K Productions nor the Randolph Family has intellectual property rights to the Madam Walker story nor to my book, On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C. J. Walker (Scribner, 2001). At the time of the 1985 sale, all rights to books, movies and intellectual property of a similar nature were retained by the Walker family and its legal heirs. My family and I also own certain Madam Walker trademarks and retain rights of publicity.
    Today our family proudly keeps Madam Walker’s legacy alive through the Walker Theatre Center, a 1927 National Historic Landmark and the building that formerly housed the Walker Manufacturing Company in Indianapolis; through books, speeches and a range of other initiatives; and through the Walker Family Archives, the largest privately owned collection of inherited and acquired Walker photographs, business records, personal letters, clothing, vintage advertisements, furniture and other Madam Walker artifacts. I am happy to answer any questions and can be reached through my website at http://www.aleliabundles.com
    Sincerely,
    A’Lelia Bundles
