Whether you believe he had it, has it, lost it or was pegged as the official spokesperson for the disease, it’s been 20 years since Magic Johnson announced he had the HIV virus.
Magic went for a routine physical back in 1991 when the disease was found shortly after his marriage to Cookie. She never got infected and now he’s changed the face of the disease.
In 1992 Johnson tried to return to the league but got negative feedback from other players.
20 years later, Magic is a successful philanthropist, investor and owner of multiple Starbucks and cinema franchises and may have even beat the disease.
