Touré Jokes About Trayvon Martin’s Murder Via Twitter

If you decide to use Twitter for evil, you must be prepared to catch the Internet fade. Media personality, and part-time buffoon, Touré learned this lesson earlier today when he posted an insensitive joke on his Twitter feed. “New slang! You’re Zimmering me = You’re killing me,” he wrote regarding the senseless shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The Florida teen was shot dead by 28-year-old George Zimmerman, who allegedly mistook him for a trespassing criminal despite the fact that he was unarmed and visiting family in a gated community.

Touré, who is no stranger to pulling and then trading in his race card, so long as it fits his agenda, felt the immediate error of his ways. He became a trending topic—which is exactly what he wanted seeing as how he seems to make ridiculous ignorant comments just to get a rise out of people—and posted a half-hearted apology, but not before complaining. “You know the Trayvon twitter convo is wildly out of control when a self-defined progressive white person calls me rabidly racist. O.k,” he wrote.

Finally coming to his senses (or maybe just feeling the heat from the Twitterverse) he wrote, “Fine. It was a bad “joke.” Obviously not meant to be heartless. Days & days of intellectual discourse re Trayvon went over some heads I see. My position on Trayvon has been clear for days. I shouldn’t have attacked his murderer with a facetious attempt at dark humor.”

This guy deserves a swift beat down. Aside from the fact that he’s being insensitive, as a Black man, one would think that he would use his platform to shed light on an injustice rather than make jokes about it.

I thought it was funny I’m going  to use the slang Please don’t “Zimmer” me… anyone else can say what they want why can’t he? In my opinion I hope he get’s killed in prison he doesn’t deserve to live… and I do Love god and asked him to forgive me but I don’t like that character if jail doesn’t get him Karma will.

I don’t think Toure was being insensitive , it was more of an attack on Martin’s assailant. And Toure has definitely been vocal about his support for justice as it applies to this case.

This piece clearly wasn’t researched; just the result of your feeling, writing and publishing. Yes, the joke was in poor taste, but you clearly hadn’t bothered to read his feed or else you’d know that Toure has been “using his platform to shed light on [this] injustice” for days.

In light of the severity of this tragic murder and the fact the murderer has not been charged, what is there to “joke about”? What part is humorous or even funny? According to Toure  he says he ‘”sorry” because he shouldn’t of “attacked” Zimmerman. I didn’t read anything where he “attacked” zimmerman, what I read was Toure using the name zimmerman in a manner indicative of an “action” against one’s person -in jest! And it is nothing to be “jesting about”! Therefore, the apology given should have been given for making “light” of a “serious situation”. S0 is the fact that he’s used his platform in the past to address the matter seriously  excuse enough to now “joke about it”? I don’t think so! Neither do “thousands” who not only verbally attacked zimmerman – but would love to do so “physically”! And make “no apologies” for it!

Danet … You have NO facts or direct knowledge to declare the shooting to NOT be a justifiable homicide.

  • ElleMarie

Sounds like whomever wrote this has a personal problem with Toure … He has been a MAJOR supporter of Trayvon since day one. The joke was of poor taste, but it was not intentional. If you’re going to report ‘real’ news stories, than please report it from a neutral standpoint … otherwise just continue to ‘report’ on the same gossip ‘buffoonery’  as always.
    Sincerely,
    Your Readers.

This article is an excuse to express the author’s pinned-up frustration with Toure. Don’t try to make it seem as if we all should be upset with a benign “joke.” I don’t care for Toure either, but he’s pressed the Trayvon issue heavily.

  • Sailor_sega

LOL “You’re Zimmering me” .  That’s funny.  People need to get a sense of humour.

Yeah, it was a bad joke, in bad taste, for a bad purpose, and Ms. Touré needs to pull her head outta her a$$.

  • E Shum77

Bad timing, and an unfunny insensitive joke. Touré has reached the lowest of the low.

“who allegedly mistook him for a trespassing criminal despite the fact
that he was unarmed and visiting family in a gated community….”   information NOT possibly known by Zimmerman prior to the incident.

Everyone on all sides of the issue have simply assumed “facts” not yet in evidence!

No thanks
