The annual West Indian Day Parade is a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of its participants. While the violence too often associated with the day's festivities can be problematic, it is minimal when considering the thousands upon thousands of people that descend upon Brooklyn's Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights to watch the day's revelry.
Besides beautiful people of color outfitted in regal colors as well as a bevy of watchers, politicians were on hand to show their support, including New York State governor Mario Cuomo.
"I love [the parade]. It was a special treat to me for me to be with Harry Belafonte," said Cuomo. "I have been a big fan of Harry for a long time so it was a special treat."
