French Montana's expects first week sales of his Excuse My French debut to do good numbers. With record sales dropping to a 12-year low in 2012, the Coke Boy said that he hopes to push 200,ooo copies of his debut in seven days.
During an interview with DJ Drama, Montana revealed his sales dreams, plus touched on that infamous MTV Hottest MC in The Game list, which had rappers living in their emotions for a good two weeks or so.
Asked of what number would satisfy him, he thought 200,000 would be a good bench mark. “It gotta crack at least 200 [thousand] or better.”
He previously called the release the “best” album to drop in a decade, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything for his record sales. “You never know though,” he continued. “You never know how it go, it all comes down to the shipping.”
There was also talk of how he's created his own rap style, before he got into the MTV list. Drama pointed out that Montana was originally on the list, but taken off for not dropping an album. “It's not about a check so, it doesn't matter,” he said of not being recognized.
“If they do something like that, they need to have they facts right. They'll sit there and be like ‘Pop That' was No. 2, you know it was No. 1. Oh ‘French Montana has nothing but features on his songs but Meek Mill doesn't.' All right, cool name my songs. ‘Shot Callers' was by myself, ‘Everything's A Go' is by myself.”
He then named examples of Meek's many song features, thus proving MTV wrong. “If you talking facts, talk facts. A lot of people didn't have a bigger year than me, last year. I was in damn near every song.
“At the end of the day that [list] is just about five people that go to breakfast—Dunkin' Donuts in the morning together—and just you know put it together. But like you said when you do something like come up with a Top 10 list…you put a lot of people that's not even competing on the same level.”
