Atlantic Records CEO Craig Kallman proudly announced today, January 8 that DJ Drama will serve as a member of their A&R team from this point forward.
"One of the most accomplished DJs and mixtape masters, DJ Drama brings brilliant instincts and consummate skills to our A&R team," Kallman said in a press release."A hugely influential force in the Hip-Hop community, I know he'll be a tremendous asset in signing and developing artists and making amazing records."
The move makes a lot of sense in many ways, seeing that Drama released his first two studio albums of his acclaimed Gangsta Grillz series on the label.
His newly formed Means Street Studios in Atlanta will also serve as hub for Atlantic artists to record material in.
DJ Drama-mixed street albums have all but become a right of passage for burgeoning MCs. The past few months have seemed him lending his talents to female MC Rapsody, fellow Atlanta native Rich Homie Quan and Nipsey Hussle, who sold their respective mixtape for $100 a pop in the physical form.
"My first two albums as an artist were on Atlantic. And I'm now looking forward to working with Craig and Julie [Atlantic chairman/COO Greenwald] in a new capacity, helping them break the label's next crop of amazing talent," Drama said in an adjoining statement.
