Da Brat is taking her recent mandated order to pay her 2007 assault victim $6.4M in stride. (At least while the cameras are rolling.)
The Chicago-born, Atlanta transplant recently uploaded a video of her reaction to the jury’s verdict for her to fork over the hefty sum to former NFL cheerleader Shayla Stevens. According to court records, her bottle-wielding actions caused permanent facial scarring, neurological impairment, and severe mental pain.
Before sitting down with TMZ to conduct an interview and partaking in some high-end cuisine at Sakana Sushi & Grill with Hip-Hop Enquirer’s Dennis Byron, the rapper–real name Shantae Harris was reflective and very vocal about the outcome which she personally feels jumped the shark just a tad.
“Like I said in court, I definitely shouldn’t have done what I did and the girl deserved some compensation, but $6.4M? HELL no. I don’t know where anybody gonna get that from,” she calmly stated. “You can’t squeeze water from a turnip.”
Da Brat has been a free woman since February 28, 2011 after serving 21 months for the assault to which she plead guilty for. Ironically, her reaction clip was shot exactly three years after her release date.
“It is what it is,” Brat continued. “When I start getting it, they’ll get some.” Later she added, “They gotta wait in line.”
As previously reported, Da Brat’s last retail album was 2003’s ironically titled Limelite, Luv & Niteclubz. As the first female rapper to go platinum in 1994, she had better channel some of that old magic back to hope to make a dent in her debt.
