Rick Ross Talks Correctional Officer Past With Sway On Rapfix [VIDEO]

Rick Ross has achieved rap stardom over the course of his career, but there were parts of the rapper’s past that seemed questionable. In an interview, Rozay braved questions about his correctional officer past and explained why he took the job.

Sitting with MTV’s Sway Calloway for RapFix, the host played a portion of Ross’ track “Rich Is Gangsta” and had the MMG boss decode a line. The verse, “Feds tore apart the squad n—a/That’s why I had to play the part n—a/That wasn’t me, it was a job n—a/It gets deeper, that was just a start, n—a” is without doubt a clear nod to Ross’ time as a prison guard. Instead of denying his role as he did previously, Ross took the inquiry from Sway head on.

“That particular line most definitely referred to me being a C.O.,” Ross said. “That being a job and just understanding the grind and the hustle and anything else I may have done. It’s just a job, it’s a hustle, man.”

Sway then pressed Ross in asking if he had just come out with the truth then, would it have even been an issue. Surprisingly, Ross once more spoke honestly about the matter in his typical fashion.

“I wouldn’t change nothing, cause to me it’s about who Rozay is,” Ross added. “It’s about me. Anywhere I go, when I step in the room, I put it down. People know it’s authentic right here, they know it’s real, so it was nothing that I was personally threatened with, I was just ready to move on. Let’s go get this money, let’s make this music.”

Sway admitted he wasn’t too perturbed about Ross being a correctional officer, providing the context that it was simply a job and nobody should be ashamed of that. In closing on that matter, Ross said he’d do it all over again.
