Exclusive: Boaz Talks Working With Junior Reid & Having #1 Video On The Wrap Up

Rappers and their crews work hard in going the extra mile to entertain the fans. A lot of the additional efforts tend to go unnoticed from time to time but that’s the breaks when you choose the life of an artist.

Hip-Hop Wired recently checked in with Rostrum Records’ Boaz to get the details on his video “How We Law” which recently landed at #1 on The Wrap Up.

The plans to recruit Junior Reid–or “Mr. Reid”–as Boaz says everyone in Jamaica calls him was a no-brainer.

“I’m was working with producers K-Salaam & Beatnick out in New York and the reggae-infused track made Reid instantly the first artist to appear on the record with,” Boaz recalls to Hip-Hop Wired. “He crosses over to Hip-Hop so well and [they] happened to have a relationship with Reid. After he did some research, he was willing to do the track and ‘How We Law’ came together like magic.”

The rebellious lyrics mixed with a bevy of catchy bass indeed has an uncanny balance to it, but it was “How We Law’s” accompanying video, which was shot in the heart of Kingston, Jamaica that really highlighted the message.

Boaz says it was a move designed to “test the market” and he couldn’t be more pleased with the final results.

“It was like, ‘Damn, I’m in Jamaica with Junior Reid right now,'” he continued. “It was a once in a lifetime experience and honestly without Mr Reid, the video would have been impossible! We were in some areas where you definitely need ‘certification,’ know what I mean? It was a humbling experience. I mean we come from the hood over here but we you see people walking around barefoot, it was some sh*t to see. It really puts things into perspective how we out here killing over nothing! The city was happy to be involved in that energy because you can tell it doesn’t come through that often.”

According to Boaz, the record is merely a springboard for another buzz-building record he plans to release within the coming weeks.

“It came together exactly how we envisioned and to be #1 on The Wrap Up, that’s love,” he concluded.
