On a mainstream level, rappers spew idioms about money in large amounts that more often than not outweigh the actual dollar amount in their bank accounts. However, veteran MCs Pep Love and Tajai of the legendary Hieroglyphics crew speak from a contrary point of view on their new track “Monopoly Money.”

The duo wax poetics detailing society’s egregious money worshiping ways. “Currency don’t worry me/ Because I can’t bring it with me when they bury me,” Pep raps, succinctly describing the purpose of the record. But with lines like “money on my mind,” “ain’t nothing more important that the mula,” and constantly being conditioned into people’s beliefs, Pep and Tajai understand that they’re fighting an uphill battle.

“Monopoly Money” is a bonus track that will not appear on Pep’s forthcoming Dolla Daily EP, due to release on October 28. Stream the cut, an exclusive Hip-Hop Wired premiere, below.
