BBD is back. Bell Biv Devoe returns with a new Notorious B.I.G. sampling track, “Run,” and with a new album on the horizon.
The new album from Ricky Bell, Mike Bivins and Ron Devoe is called Three Stripes ≡. and is due out January 27, 2017. Anyone familiar with the affinity the city of Boston—where New Edition hails from—will understand why the title makes perfect sense.
As for the single, “Run” is produced by EPMD’s Erick Sermon, who has never been a slouch behind the boards. The familiar break made famous by B.I.G.’s “Hypnotize” is from Herb Alpert’s “Rise” and matches the old Hip-Hop smoothed out on the R&B tip that BBD always touted.
The new album’s arrival will coincide with the release of BET’s biopic/mini-series The New Edition Story.
