Apple Offers Up Oscar Pistorius iPhone Records To Aid Murder Investigation

Authorities in the case against Oscar Pistorius want access to athlete’s phone records leading up  to the death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. The Paralympian shot Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day, allegedly believing she was a burglar.

Pistorius claims to have forgotten the digital password for his iPhone 5, used on the night of Steenkamp’s death. As such, Apple technicians have been commissioned to crack the code and reveal what could be pivotal messages shedding light on the couple’s correspondence before the shooting. “Pistorius is saying he can’t remember the code and we have been unable to access messages sent or received that night,” police spokesman Vineshkumar Moonoo said. “These could be crucial, and Apple executives in America have made their technicians available to help us.”

Moonoo doesn’t believe Pistorius’ amnesia to be anything out of the ordinary. “I cannot say Pistorius’s memory failure is suspicious but the mobile phones were clearly in use up to the time of the killing.”

In February Pistorius was freed on bail. His case is adjourned until August.
