Not all Black teens in America are looked at as “thugs” simply for their skin color.
In the case of Temar Boggs he’s a certified hero, although he doesn’t think so. The 15 year old used a bike to help rescue a 5-year-old girl Saturday (July 13) after she was abducted from his neighborhood.
“I’m just a normal person who did a thing that anybody else would do,” Boggs said.
Boggs, a resident of Lancaster, Penn’s. Gable Park Woods, didn’t know the young child. While the teen and his friends were helping a neighbor move a couch, a man approached asking if they had seen the abductee who was taken earlier in the afternoon. The youngsters said “no,” but decided to join in the search. “We got all of our friends to go look for her. We made our own little search party.”
The entire block was filled with volunteers, news crews and cops, when Boggs decided to break away from the pack. He grabbed a friend’s bike and rode the streets, accompanied by another friend, Chris Garcia. “I had the gut feeling that I was going to find the little girl.”
A tan car grabbed Boggs’ attention, he looked closer and saw the victim inside. The driver caught on and tried to flee, then stopped and threw the girl out of the vehicle first.”She runs to my arms and said, ‘I need to see my mommy.’ ”
The girl was scared to go to police. “She didn’t want to leave me because she thought they were going to do something to her. I said, ‘No, it’s OK,’ ” Boggs recalled.
Authorities say the child was taken out for ice cream and assaulted. She was returned back to her parents who called Boggs her “guardian angel.”
He doesn’t see it that way.
“It was like fate, it was like meant for me and Chris to be there. If we wouldn’t have left [to look for the girl] who knows what would have happened to the little girl. It was a blessing for me to make that happen.”
