Three white police officers accused of severely beating a Black teenager and ripping his dreadlocks out of his scalp have been suspended by the city of Pittsburgh.

The three officers have been suspended pending an investigation of the police beating of 18-year-old Jordan Miles.

The mayor of Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl has released a statement on their suspension saying,

“Since the investigation will take several weeks to complete, the immediate action I call for today is necessary for the safety of the officers involved, their colleagues and the peace of mind and safety of the entire community.”

As previously reported, Jordan Miles was walking to his grandmother’s house at night when he was approached by three officers in plain clothes saying,

“Where’s the money?” “Where’s the gun? Where’s the drugs?”

Unaware that they were officers Miles says he ran away for fear of his safety before being chased down and being beaten, kicked, choked, and having his hair ripped out.

The officers contend that they thought he had a gun in his pocket but said it turned out to be a bottle of Mountain Dew.

Miles denies those claims and says nothing was in his pocket and he rarely drinks Mountain Dew.

The officers have been suspended with pay.

The family of Jordan Miles is considering a lawsuit.

Police brutality strikes again…smh.
