African-American Teen Pregnancy Rate Is At An All-Time Low, Study Shows

The day 2Pac wanted for Brenda seems like it has finally arrived.

A recent study by The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy shows that the pregnancy rate in Black teens has fallen 51 percent between the years 1990 and 2009.

Via Essence:

Since its peak in 1990, teen pregnancy has declined 52 percent among 15-17 year-olds and by 36 percent for 18-19 year-olds among all races.

“The decline has been fueled by three factors: more teens are waiting to have sex; they also report fewer sexual partners and better use of contraception,” said Sarah Brown, campaign CEO.

Brown also went on to detail how despite the historic dip in the overall numbers, the perception that Black teenage mothers are still popping up like wildflowers at the first whiff of springtime.

When know that everybody lies, especially naive adults but the numbers tell the tale in full. The continuous campaigns targeted at teens that preach abstinence and safe sex practices have seemed to paid off.

Hey young world, keep wrapping it up. Your future is what you make it.
