Bun B and Scarface aren’t the only socially revered Hip-Hop figures in Houston. They paved the way for plenty of notable rappers to make headway after them, especially Slim Thug, who was recently honored with his own day; “Thugga Day,” on February 25.
Council Member Jerry Davis and Mayor Annise D. Parker organized the entire event in light of Slim Thug’s contributions to the community, especially in his old neighborhood Scenic Woods. For the 6’6″ rapper giving back is a no-brainer as he stated, “Every year, I do toy drives and turkey give-a-ways for underprivileged kids in my hood. I know what it’s like to have a mom that works more than one job just to provide for her family, so I just play my part in helping those single mothers out.”
Slim Thug, born Stayve Thomas, first hit the national scene in 2005 when he guest starred on Mike Jones’ “Still Tippin'” record, and then pollinated his regional sound with The Neptunes by signing to their Star Trak label and releasing his debut album, Already Platinum.
He has gone to release several other full length projects and collaborations including 2011’s Houston.
Hit the flip to see pictures of the Boss Hogg getting the 713 salute and looking real presidential in his suit. Not too many other rappers are ever lucky enough to get such a distinction.
