20 Twitter Reactions To Michael Jackson’s Billboard Music Awards 2014 Performance

The late, great King of Pop just got through performing “Slave to the Rhythm” at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, and left people in awe, star struck, and confused as to why it happened in the first place.

With a new album that’s burning up the charts, Michael Jackson has gone through a career resurgence as of late. To commemorate the moment, ABC and Billboard promised music fans a “historical” televised appearance by the former Motown singer-songwriter. The only issue is that the man born Michael Joseph Jackson has been gone from the land of the living for five years now.

While that wasn’t enough to stop the powers-that-be from pushing the button on holo-Jackson, it did provide the Twittersphere with a lot of things to talk about. Produced by Dick Clark Productions and choreographed by The Talauega Brothers, the Michael Jackson performance was the result of nearly half a year of planning, choreography, and filming. No one saw anything regarding the development of the production until eight days before the broadcast, according to

The upbeat dance number, which appears on Michael’s posthumously released XSCAPE album, is helping to fuel the global icon’s return to the number one spot. As holo-Jackson impressed new audiences with his twirls and moonwalks, Twitizens around the world reacted to the singer’s brief return to the spotlight.

I love these holograms! Genius idea to whomever created these life like performances for dead!

  • True Fan

Very disappointing. Did not look like the real MJ at all. The face was not even close. Didn’t dance with natural expertise of Michael either. I would rather have seen footage of the real MJ. Love Xscape album tho!

  • True Fan

LA Reid, you can do better! How about actual footage of MJ with his mouth computerized carefully and professionally to say the words of the new song? You know the way they do the talking babies, but better!

I thought that was one of the best performances of the night…there were some flaws in his appearance but other than that it was great.

  • GemDiva

To be honest me and my family enjoyed it…it was a little weird,But exciting at the same time..To me it’s a reminder weather dead or alive he still and will always hold the title as The King of Pop..So why be bitter or negative about the performance…If it we’re Elvis wouldn’t nobody be responding so negative..

  • Entertainmentluvva
