Aretha Franklin Diagnosed With Cancer

Fox 2 in Detroit has confirmed that Aretha Franklin has cancer.

A close relative of the legendary singer tells reporter Al Allen that they are very concerned and while the National Enquierer claims that she has pancreatic cancer, that news has yet to be confirmed.

Aretha’s family says she is doing “OK,” but they are still asking for continued prayers and support.

Last week the singer had a surgery for unknown reasons.

Though deeming the procedure as a success, Franklin canceled all appearances through May 2011 due to medical concerns.

The following statement was released by Aretha Franklin after her surgery, as previously reported.

“The surgery was highly successful. God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country. God bless you all for your prayers!”

More details on her condition are set to be released later today.

  • Ms. Aretha Franklin, now is the time to tell you how very much ive enjoyed your music and wonderful voice. One of our favorite songs is RESPECT. that is a good mantra to live by. You blew me away when you stepped in for a very well known opera singer and was actually singing opera. We knew you were multitalented but who knew to what extent. Bravo, Bravo. Add actress to the mix and we have only half of your talents. Good luck and wishes for a fast recovery and God bless you.

Ms. Aretha Franklin, a true diva, from an era when an artist truly had to have talent, one who has given us beautiful, soul stirring and emotional music over the years, from gospel to r&b. One who has paved the way for so many artist after her. Ottis Redding once said, she took his song “Respect” and just ran with it, made it her own. I too, was blown away the year she at the last minute stood in for somebody and sang opera, with Pavorotti. Ms. Franklin, our prayers are with you, praying that God will guide your medical staff and give them the wisdom and expertist to help you to full recovery. May God be with you.
