Musician Gil ScottHeron Dies at 62

A family friend of famed poet Gil Scott Heron has confirmed that the legend died Friday afternoon after becoming ill from a trip to Europe.

Further details on his death are not available at this time.

Heron was noted for his influence on rap music and culture and is renowned for his outspoken views on politics he put into his music and poetry.

He may be best known for “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised,” poetry set to jazz music that’s been referenced repeatedly since he recorded it in the 1970′s in Harlem.
