Multifaceted entertainer Nick Cannon made headlines after being hospitalized for mild kidney failure. The host of NBC’s America’s Got Talent entered the hospital in early January as a result of his health issues. Nearly a month later, he was back under medical care after suffering from bloodclots in his lungs. Now, Cannon is opening up about his circumstances, saying it is related to a lupus-like condition.
Cannon, 31, spoke with PEOPLE Magazine Wednesday night at an event where he was guest deejaying, revealing that his kidney failure issue led to the clots in his lungs thanks to “autoimmune disease that [doctors] found in my system.” He also added that the clots were related to his kidney infection.
“I thought I was getting better,” said Cannon, who was caught by surprise by MD’s findings. “And then that happened, so that kind of came out of nowhere.”
For now, Cannon intends on taking it easy, recently stepping down from a radio hosting job earlier in the month. He did say that he’s got everything in check and that he’s much better than before. “”It’s a lot of stuff,” said Cannon, “but it’s all in order now.”
