“If life is really a video game, then who has the controller?,” asks David Banner. The Mississippi rapper is dropping a new, self-funded album, S-x, Drugs & Video Games, on May 22nd, and hopes to flip the music business paradigm via his 2M1 movement. According to Banner, part of the album’s inspiration was being “embarrassed” by the world’s perception of African-American men after a trip to Europe a few years ago. An artist that is constantly making you think about how you perceive music and media,  Banner explained to Hip-Hop Wired that his new album’s title can be explained in three parts.

“If Black people, the only stimulus that we get is sex, drugs and violence…. you can give us three different cups, but if they all got water in them, do you really have a choice?,” is how Banner explains one aspect of his album’s title. “Every time we see a movie a Black man is a dope dealer for the most part, he’s violent or there’ something dark about him—in the sense of what they say darkness is. If that’s the only stimuli that you feeding ’em, then what kind of music you think you going to get, huh?!”
