Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz stays trying to prove that he can kick a rhyme. Yesterday, while announcing BK’s annual Northside Festival in Borough Hall, alongside Wu-Tang Clan’s GZA, Markowitz decided to spit his own version of the opening lines of the rapper’s “Liquid Swords.”

“Through cyclones or typhoons, I represent Brooklyn from midnight to high noon…I don’t waste ink, I think, I drop ‘fuggedaboutits’ faster than you blink,” rapped Markowitz as GZA nodded in approval, clearly out of respect for his elders. Not because Markowitz can, you know, flow.

The Genius, who is actually from Brooklyn, will be headlining this year’s Northside Festival. He will be performing his classic Liquid Swords album with musical backing from Latin funk group Grupo Fantasma. The festival goes down in BK’s Greenpoint and Williamsburg neighborhoods from June 14th through June 21st and will feature over 350 bands. Wu-Tang Clan, again and again.
