David Hackbart has to be proud to be an American, because only in this great country can a person give a police officer “the finger” and receive a substantial amount of money for it.

The 35-year-old man was awarded $50,000 after accusing the city of Pittsburgh of violating his civil rights, an accusation that stems from an incident in 2006.

In April of that year, Hackbart shot that bird at a motorist, repeating the gesture at another driver after being publicly scolded. Fortunately for him, the second driver was an active, on-duty member of law enforcement.

Initially in hot water for the move, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has backed the rude man during the entire course of his ordeal.

A federal judge has postponed the case indefinitely, prompting Pittsburgh’s city council to settle the case themselves.

Congrats for sticking it to “the man” and winning Mr. Hackbart!
