Devon Daniels was indicted on charges that he illegally leaked information to a drug trafficking organization, Friday (Aug. 10). The NYPD officer was arrested on several charges, by the Drug Enforcement Agency back in May.

According to Brooklyn federal prosecutors, Daniels broke several rules, when he gave out internal information to the traffickers. The 31-year-old is accused of illegally gaining access to the NYPD’s computer database, and using the information he collected to tip-off the criminals whose drug ring extended outside New York City to the Midwest.  He also used mobile computers inside squad cars to run license plates, before texting his findings to Guy Curtis, a dealer based out of Jamaica, Queens.  Police came across one of Daniels’ text message, in which the dealer commissioned his help to obtain a weapon.

While he didn’t make a lot of money breaking the law, Daniels is believed to have been motivated by childhood loyalty. “They were friends from the neighborhood,” a source said of the dealers with whom Daniels corresponded.

Daniels is currently free on bail, while he awaits trial, and remains suspended without pay.
