For two decades plus, the Oakland-based rap collective Hieroglyphics (Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Casual, Souls Of Mischief, Pep Love, Domino) have enraptured fans with several stand out album releases and sold out world tours . Still going strong as one of the first groups to embrace the changing times by using the Internet to push their wares, the Hiero crew is set to celebrate an inaugural event in their hometown which be known as the “Hiero Day” music festival.

On September 3, the Hieroglyphics will be joined by the Parish Entertainment Group to kick off the event which will become an annual celebration. Other Bay Area faves such as Blackalicious, Planet Asia and Moe Green are all slated to perform at the festival. Styled as a free block party event; vendors, street art, children’s activities and other treats will be available for fans and others interested to learn about Oakland’s rich Hip-Hop roots and enjoy performances taking place on the main stage downtown.

Hiero solo act Casual came up with the idea for “Hiero Day” after a fan said that September 3 (9/3) would be a fitting day to celebrate the crew, considering that one of the crew’s biggest songs is Souls Of Mischief’s classic single “93 Til Infinity.” Hiero Imperium and Souls Of Mischief rapper Tajai Massey agrees.

“After looking at our influence and worldwide fan base, we wanted to give back in some way with an event that’s a mix of 4:20, X Games, and Lollapalooza. And since we’re from a city that has spawned several progressive movement and style, we want to show our pride and recognize these accomplishments as well as look towards the future by embracing the youth and engaging them with positivity,” said Tajai in a statement.
