An aspiring rapper from Southern California met an untimely fate, moments after tweeting Drake’s infamous line: “You Only Live Once.” Ervin McKinness said he was driving drunk off Ciroc last week, and used the social networking site to announce his poor choices. “Drunk af going 120 drifting corners #F-ckIt YOLO,” he wrote.
The 21-year-old, who signed a record deal and rapped under the moniker Jew’elz and Inkyy, continued to tweet about being under the influence writing, “Driving tweeting, sipping the cup f-ck yolo I’m turning it up.”
At 1:40 a.m. he died in a car crash in Ontario, Calif. when the 2005 Nissan Sentra that he was riding in ran a red light, lost control of the wheel and crashed into a wall. The car ended up in the backyard of someone’s home. All of the other passengers—Marquell Bogan, 23, Dylan George, 20, Jonathan Watson, 21, and JaJuan Bennett, 23—were also killed in the crash.
Everyone, with the exception of Bogan, was pronounced dead at the scene, while he was pronounced dead a local hospital.
According to police, McKinness was not the actual driver of the car, it was Watson. However his tweets will be used to determine the cause of the crash. “They’re certainly looking at that because it will be a vital part of the investigation, but it’s too early to give an opinion as to whether it [drunken driving] was a cause or contributed to the crash,” explained Ontario police Sgt. David McBride in an interview with the San Bernardino County Sun.
McKinness’ cryptic tweets have not been removed, but a new post attempts to clear his name by announcing that the finger is being pointed at the “wrong person.”
