The man who accused Elmo puppeteer, Kevin Clark, of underage intercourse was paid off, this according to TMZ. Sources revealed to the site that Clark shelled out six-figures to buy the silence of aspiring model, Sheldon Stephens.

Stephens received $1250,000 to release a public statement recanting claims that he and Clark engaged in a physical relationship when the now 23-year-old, was only 16. One day after news of the affair broke, a lawyer for Stephens announced that the original story was false, done in accordance with the deal. “Stephens agrees that immediately upon execution of this Agreement, his counsel, Andreozzi & Associates, P.C., shall release the [following] statement…’He [Stephens] wants it to be known that his s-xual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship.”

Despite signing the document and pocketing the money, Stephens is said to be sticking to his original claim, and was crying during the final negotiations of the out-of-court settlement.

Clash took a leave of absence from Sesame Street in light of the incident, but released a statement saying that he was “relieved” that the “painful allegation has been put to rest.”

Sesame Workshop, the company behind Sesame Street stood behind Clash revealing that their own internal investigation discredited Stephen’s allegations.
