Being in a Walmart can leave customers on the edge, and Jacquetta Simmons of New York, will spend five years in jail over her inability to maintain her rage. The 27-year-old was sentenced to five years behind bars Wednesday (Nov. 14), stemming from an assault on an elderly door greeter who asked to see her receipt.

Simmons went crazy on the unassuming greeter, Grace Souzzi, during a visit to the Batavia store, last Christmas Eve. While finishing up some last-minute shopping, Simmons and her male companion were asked to produce a receipt for the merchandise. Rather than comply, she punched Souzzi in the face, and fled to location.

Both Simmons and the man were eventually detained by store employees until police arrived. The entire incident was caught on the store’s surveillance camera.

In court, Simmons said she was sorry for the incident but the judge wasn’t buying it, saying that “she absolutely did not accept any responsibility for what she did.”

During the trial, Souzzi offered remarks on how the attack has changed her life. “What she has taken away is irreplaceable, she has taken away my independence…she has taken away my job and replaced it with trauma.

An attorney for Simmons plans to appeal the ruling on grounds that five years is too severe a sentence, and that she “inadvertently” jerked her arm and hit Souzzi.
