A Texas man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for biting his female roommate during an argument with his girlfriend.

Prosecutors announced the sentencing in a statement released last Friday (Nov. 17), after a jury convicted F. Jacques Quinn of felony assault and causing bodily injury, earlier in the week.

Like many involved in the “bath salts” criminal epidemic, the 32-year-old claimed that the attack was drug induced. Quinn asserts that his drink was spiked with narcotics, leaving him unknowingly intoxicated and hallucinating at the time of the Jan. 18 incident.

Quinn was living with his girlfriend and her roommate, when an argument erupted between the couple. The roommate jumped into the disagreement, at which point Quinn bit her in the arm. His grip was reportedly so tight that the girlfriend hit him in the head with a pot to stop him.

Given his extensive criminal record holding 15 other convictions for assault, theft, drug possession, and other crimes, jurors saw it necessary to give Quinn maximum penalty allowed by law.

Aside from the mandatory 20 year prison bid, Quinn was fined $10,000.
