The 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees were announced today and Public Enemy, Quincy Jones, and Donna Summer are  among those who received their career-praising nods from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum.

Next year’s inductees also include  Albert King, Randy Newman, Lou Adler, Rush, and Heart.

The political Hip-Hop pioneers, lauded for giving the culture a platform to deliver powerful messages in rhyme, is finally getting recognized on a major level. Only receiving two Grammy Awards in their entire careers and being heavily criticized for their lyrical depth, being acknowledged by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a massive achievement. They join other Hip-Hop artists in the Hall of  Fame, like the  Beastie Boys and Run-DMC.

PE front man, Chuck D spoke with All Hip Hop about just how much the honor means to the group. “A group is what we’ve been these past 25 years, 84 countries, 85 tours.” Chuck said.“We are the sum of great individuals who have followed Hip-Hop’s elemental blueprint  necessary to be considered comparable to stand up to the many great [music] genre’s artists. We are seriously thankful and share this achievement with our Hip-Hop and rap music idiom.”

Unfortunately, Summer, Queen of Disco, died earlier this year and will not be able to see her career acknowledged but the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction immortalizes her musical legacy.

The ceremony will take place at the Nokia Theatre  in Los Angeles on April 18, 2013.
