Swizz Beatz Was Never Megauploads CEO

The more details emerge about the U.S. Department of Justice’s case against Megaupload, the more bizarre the story becomes. Today (January 20), Venture Beat reports that the New York Post report naming super producer Swizz Beatz as the acting CEO of the recently indicted file-sharing company was not entirely accurate. According to the company’s head attorney, Swizz (born Kasseem Dean) never held an official position at the company and has no involvement in the current case.

“To my knowledge, Swizz Beatz was never involved in any meaningful way,” said Megaupload attorney Ira Rothken. “He was negotiating to become the CEO, but it was never official.”

Rothken’s claim seems plausible considering Beatz’s name appears nowhere in the 72-page indictment that was filed by the DOJ yesterday. That still doesn’t explain why the rapper’s publicist confirmed his role as CEO earlier this week or why recently released screenshots, which were taken from Megaupload.com before the site was shut down, listed Beatz as Chief Executive Officer.

It looks as if this issue will remain a mystery until Swizzy, whose Twitter account has been uncharacteristically idle since the take down, issues a public statement either confirming or denying his role in the company.
