Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson is facing a battery charge, stemming from his assault on wife, Evelyn Lozada. The State Attorney for Broward County, in Florida officially brought the charge against the former Miami Dolphins wide receiver for allegedly head-butting the Basketball Wives star, during an argument over a receipt for condoms.

Lozada filed for divorce days later, but Johnson has decided that he doesn’t want the marriage to end. Aside from going on Twitter to announce that he is still in love with his wife, the 34-year-old is also refusing to sign divorce papers.

The couple was only married for a month before the incident, and while their nuptials were recorded for their VH1 series Ev & Ocho, the show has since been canceled.

Although Johnson has yet to open up about the actual details of the attack, Lozada has done two interviews, the most recent of which will air this weekend. In her first sit-down, the New York native detailed the night in which she was attacked, and her decision to file for divorce. “It’s the hardest thing in the world, to walk away from someone that you really love,” she said. “But you walk away because I have to protect myself.”

In another show of his dedication, Johnson  got a tattoo of her picture on his leg. If convicted, he faces up to a year behind bars.
