Feuding American Idol co-hosts Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj are in the news once more. After last fall’s dustup between the pair, Mariah Carey has spoken up about the ongoing beef and even appeared to throw a shot at her rapping counterpart as well.

Last night, Mariah Carey was a guest on Nightline, giving an exclusive interview to Barbara Walters. Although the celebrated Pop singer spoke about her music, marriage and motherhood, Walters zeroed in on the relationship between Minaj and Carey. Focusing on the video showing a shouting match between the stars, Walters inquired if Carey thought that Minaj’s gun threat was serious.

“It felt like an unsafe work environment,” said Carey. “Anytime anybody’s reeling threats to anybody, you know, it’s not appropriate. I’ve got two babies, I’m not gonna take any chances. So yeah I hired more security, I just felt like it was the appropriate thing to do.”

Minaj has since gone on record to say that the reported threats were false via Twitter last fall. Nightline attempted to get quotes from the Pink Friday rapper but was rebuffed by her representative. Walters dug in further with Carey, bringing up Nicki Minaj’s single “Hell Yeah” and the lines “I’m quick to the check a b-tch if she outta line/Shout out Mike, Darnell, and Nigel/Why these bums so mad that the queen on idol?” – asking if the b-word drop was intended for her.

“Don’t know, don’t know what she’s saying,” said Carey before looking somewhat amused. “Didn’t know she sing, I thought she rapped, or whatever.”

Although the ladies said they’ve buried the hatchet, expect some fireworks when American Idol debuts on January 16.
